On The Home Front

This is the final template -- for now, anyway. Mom and I agree that this one is pretty and makes us smile.

I don't know if it was necessary to order a "jumbo" flyer and bobbin in order to ply the two regular bobbins of spun yarn without knots, but I did it. They haven't arrived yet, but I'm hoping for later today, or tomorrow at the latest. In the meantime, I understand that it's good to let this sit for a day or two so the twist can "settle."

Today's mail did bring me a skein of handspun 3-ply yarn from an e-friend in Connecticut. I didn't get it to knit with, but to use as an example of how beautiful and consistent handspun can be. You would never know that this yarn didn't come off a machine -- it's gorgeous! In the package she also included a bag of roving to for spinning practice. It's a Coopworth/Shetland mix. I'm getting quite an education in sheep and their wool!

The weather is getting really hot, and it continuously surprises me that we're so far into the summer. I'm amazed that July starts later this week. It seems that just a couple of weeks ago the trees were getting new leaves and the flowers getting ready to bloom. We have roses, gardenias, azaleas, trumpet vine, lilacs, queen ann's lace, and some pretty yellow flowers whose name I don't remember, all blooming in the back yard. And in the field below us -- thousands of tumbleweeds. The rain we had this year brought them out, and the heat is now doing it's best to beat them down.

I think I'll sit by the fan and knit a little before dinner.
